Bridge in the Rain

Bridge in the Rain

By Bianca Lakoseljac

Bridge in the Rain is a collection of interconnected short stories set in present day Toronto and linked by an inscription on a bench in High Park. The stories chronicle the travails of seven women, each dealing with a turning point in her life, be it making a career choice, resolving family crises, illuminating a secret behind a local legend, or finding an inspiration for her artistic endeavours. The stories are imbued with an international context inherent in the multicultural nature of Canadian society, linking contemporary women's issues with concepts from history and art.

Reviews

Bianca Lakoseljac writes with precise lyricism and effortless grace. She is able to seamlessly weave together themes of domestic trauma, grief, loss and mysticism and has created a world in which the thunder of the Gardiner Expressway co-exists with the most subtle of feelings and the most magical of escapes. A lovely collection.

Paul Butler

Bianca Lakoseljac's writing, precise and elegant, is shot through with the element of surprise as she gently but firmly pushes the boundaries between reality and the supernatural. In this delightful collection, Bianca has found her literary voice in the ordinariness of lives touched and transformed by magic.
